The Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber – Lots of Devil Not Much Spot Scrubbin’

Just by reading this you’re putting yourself way ahead of the rest. If you’re thinking about buying the Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber you might want to read all the reviews that come along with this product.

Many people have had a lot of problems with this devilish little device. Sometimes it randomly ejects dirty water from the side vents, the scrub brush is nearly useless, and it just doesn’t work well.

If you’re looking for a handheld spot scrubber you should probably look elsewhere, I have a different recommendation but I will save that till after the review (scroll down if you’re impatient).

Although the price is pretty reasonable and it’s relatively easy to figure out, that’s all there is really good about this little devicel.

It’s pretty noisy and its difficult to handle. Most of the water that it sucks up gets sprayed back out of the vents and all over you, your clothes, and the room you’re trying to clean!

I eventually ended up junking this unit, I’m not even sure why Dirt Devil would end up releasing a product like this but sadly they did. They make some great upright vacuums but when it comes to the handheld market they should just stay away!

“This product is junk. Doesn’t clean well. Vacuum suction is very weak so stain and water remain in carpet. Hot water, Oxiclean and a paper towel with some blotting will do much better for less money.”

“I never review products online but this one I had to submit my thoughts on. More time/cost was placed in the appearance of the product than was used to make it functional.
1. You need earplugs to use it.
2. It shoots water out the side vents regardless of what is in the tank
3. It does not vacuum even a bit of the liquid up
4. The spray must be pumped by hand–it is not motorized and the bladder does not expand quickly…its like using a generic glass cleaner–you have to wait a minute for the pump to pop back out so you can spray again.
5. It doesn’t have enough of a scrubbing head and the bristles that it does contain are way too soft…not strong enough to scrub anyting.
6. To make it work for the spots on my carpet I had to use a bucket of hot water with a sponge to scrub the spots and then use the vacuum feature to pull a bit of the water out of the carpet–I will return it tomorrow and spend more money to buy a machine that will remove the water from my carpet before it mildews/spoils.”

A Better Alternative: Bissell 1719 SpotLifter

At about the same price as the Dirt Devil Spot Cleaner is the Bissell 1719 SpotLifter.

Same idea, just much better built and it actually works well.

It’s cordless, rechargeable, and easy to use. Especially useful for people with pets and pets that like to make messes!

Here’s what some people thought:

“I purchased this to deal with spots on carpets caused by 2 siamese cats with delicate stomachs. I found this Bissell to be well designed, easy to use, and it removed old spots I really didn’t think would come up. (and that’s not even using the special pet spot removal fluid, just the regular fluid that comes with the unit.) It sure beats scrubbing with hand brushes and sponges.”

Susan B. Coffin @ Amazon

“We have ten cats and use this machine on a pretty frequent basis for puke and minor cleanups. We have been very pleased with the power and cleanup ability it really does a great job and keeps a good charge. We use to have a larger pet cleaner but it had a hose and even with cleaning it eventually it got a musty odor to it. With this machine you can clean the entire unit and there is no hose so it stays clean. In the past years we have gone through several of these type cleaners and this Bissell is by far the best working and gets up the spots the best. ”
